Meet the Counsellor:  Judith S. Carscadden

Credentials and experience:

As a Registered Nurse I worked for over 30 years in psychiatry with adolescents and adults, regarding addiction, dual diagnosis, schizophrenia, mood disorders, dementias, and personality disorders

  • Certified by the Canadian Nurses Association and the Canadian Hospital Association, I developed administrative policies, procedures, and protocols for both hospital and community organizations

  • I designed and managed an in-hospital treatment program for people diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, and was nominated for the 1999 Amethyst Award (outstanding contributions in client service)

  • I have developed various hospital and community groups and programs

  • I have been published in both psychiatric and nursing journals and books

  • I am the author of a psychoeducational blog awarded for being one of the top 100 counselling blogs

 

The Cutting Edge Business

  • I offer consultations, workshops, and conferences on self-harm syndrome, relationship management, and professional issues.

  • These have been conducted widely within Ontario, as well as in Western Canada and all of the Maritime provinces. Participants have included psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, occupational therapists, and people from the medical, mental health, legal, corrections, addictions, education, pastoral, and other supportive agencies.

  • I was instrumental in the development of SAFE in Canada as well as program development and group facilitator.​

  • I have authored books on the self-harm syndrome that are sold globally

    • “Above The Cutting Edge: a workbook for people who want to STOP self-injury”

    • “On The Cutting Edge: a guide for working with people who self-injure”

    • “Beyond The Cutting Edge: a survival kit for Families of self-injurers”

  • I have been interviewed on numerous radio and TV stations​

  • I am a certified ordained Minister

  • I served as an instructor for inmates across Canada through New Life Prison Ministries for several years

  • Many of my teachings are being used by New Life Prison Ministries for their other instructors

  • I received an Evangelism Certificate from Queensway Cathedral, Toronto

  • I have designed and led groups for individuals with mental, emotional, and social challenges

  • I have taught and facilitated in many Christian-base classes

 

Additional Credentials

  • I am certified in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) by the International College of Applied Linguistics

  • I can communicate in sign language
